1 Simple Tip for an AWESOME Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Happy National Grilled Cheese Sandwich day!  For me, there are few things more nostalgic and comforting than a good grilled cheese sandwich. I have fond childhood memories of sitting in the kitchen with my dad and watching with anticipation while he made an ooey-gooey sandwich for us to share.

Today it's an easy go-to that makes life seem just a little less complicated for a few minutes... especially when paired with a nice bowl of tomato soup!

A few years back I discovered a quick and easy tip for taking America's favorite sandwich to the next level. I'm not talking about "elevating" it with fancier or additional ingredients - just improving on the already delectable classic. As they say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

 Ready?

Grill the bread on both sides.

This ultra simple extra step gives the sandwich a much nicer texture, with a little more crunch and a little less sogginess. Just place the bread on the skillet and grill until the bottom sides are nice and crispy golden. Then flip the bread and quickly add the cheese while it's still nice and hot. Assemble the sandwich and cook as usual, flipping as needed to brown both sides.  That's it! Give it a try and let me know what you think!

  2. Never thought of trying this, but it kind of makes sense. Will have to try it the next time we make grilled cheese.
